Happy 50th B-day!

joan.jpg

Dr Joan Teno and her niece Joan came up from Providence for some ‘formally informal’ studio work celebraing Joan’s ‘big’ Birthday. 50 is the new 30, or so I’ve been told.Dr Joan works in hospice and pallative care patience world wide; you might have heard and read about her feline, Oscar the Cat who patrols the nursing home and enters the room of those patiences who are terminally in, and helps them cross over. I think Oscar is there doing his own pallative care for the familes that are left behind.

Joan is a Labrador lover; she brought Java and the new puppy Moki as well as Gabi, a blind Lab. My poor puppy Bailey was crated for the session since she is still pretty rambuncious and I have a particular fondness for expensive lighting :)

Happy Birthday Joan, and good luck Joan in college and your year abroad.

I was lucky enough to shoot with Jon Hill of Picture Story Weddings (www.picturestoryweddings.com) at the Andover Country Club, and celebrate the

marriage of A and S; I got to work with the guys which was a real treat–usually I’m working with the girls. and to work with these funny and very kind gentlemen has made me vow to work with the guys alot more! Can’t you love the look they are giving each other above?? “WE DID IT!!”

The details of the day were so well thought out–and were reflective of A’s family heritage. The unique cakeBee Hive Cake

–in the shape of a beehive was very cool! A’s Dad is a beekeeper and the guests gift were jars of honey!jun21-150804.jpg

The Andover Country Club was lovely and in full blossom, and it made a perfect setting for a spring wedding.

Very best wishes and I hope the peace you found on your wedding day follows you throughout your lives together.

Nicole and Michael

were married at The Inn at Mystic with a great big fat Greek Wedding!
George, from Coastal Life Photography who I met at the Digital Wedding Forum conference in Mystic last January. asked if I’d be interested in working with him-uhm yeah! Mystic (my favorite non-Vineyard sea-village) and a Greek wedding too! Memories of seeing village weddings while I was studying in Greece came flooding back.

Nicole was so beautiful! Every detail was thought out and carried to perfection.

It was HOT! One of the hottest days I can remember–in June, no less–but everyone kept cool with lots of water and other libation. It was a black and white wedding, with gorgeous spring flowers adding the perfect color splashes against the green lawns, and black and white gowns and tuxes.

Michael and the guys goofed up a little after we did a little more serious formals; the guys were great fun, and their speeches were touching.

The Inn at Mystic is a fabulous venue with breath taking views, outstanding staff, service that is hard to beat.

Thank you Nicole and Michael for making it a joyous day, and to George for asking me to help out.

A few short notes about who I am, what I do, where I am, and where I’m going. These pages will be updated frequently, and while they won’t be about me, they will describe all the above.

I am the mother of 3 great kids: Oliver is a graphic designer in the Auburn MA area; Morgan is a 2nd LT in the USArmy, currently stationed in Iraq; and Andrea is a nanny to a wonderful 6 year old and living in NYC. I have 1 sister – Kirstin and I are 13 months apart and my brother in law gets to worrying when the Leaf sisters go on adventures. Sometimes he’s right to worry :). My 2 younger brothers are as different as night and day. Eric is a CPA on Long Island, Gus is a corrections officer in Boston and fisherman on Martha’s Vineyard, where are folks live and where my soul rests. The family is great, and my bedrock.

I am a wedding and portrait photographer, in the Quiet Corner of Northeast Connecticut. It didn’t start out like that, but that’s where it is. Like so many, photography was the magic science that I could relate to in college, and the passion never left. But it wasn’t until the kids were grown and able to fend for themselves that it really took hold, and I’ve run with it, like a striper on a wire. I work both on location at client’s homes, as well as my in-home studio which is in the process of being overhauled. Lots more to come about that!

The very best part of this work is meeting so many wonderful people. Plain and simple. From babies to brides, I love working with people to capture and present the memories of their lives. Kind of basic and down to earth, but that’s who and where I am.

Please stop by now and again to see what’s been going on in the ‘Quiet Corner’ and maybe we’ll make some noise!
